Individual Insurance
Medical
If you are self-employed or do not have access to an employer-sponsored health plan, individual medical insurance might be for you.
There are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for individual health insurance:
- Rates vary according to age and smoker/non-smoker status.
- In most cases, applicants will need to complete a health questionnaire to determine their eligibility for individual health insurance. For more information about the health questionnaire, exemptions and the scoring system, please see the WSHIP Standard Health Questionnaire.
- Plans are month-to-month – no annual contracts.
- Rates are adjusted on an annual basis. Adjustments are made for the plans and their entire pool of applicants – individuals are not singled out based on claims history.
