COVID-19, Temporary Layoffs & Your Insurance

COVID-19 News
March 19, 2020

Due to economic uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 coronavirus, many employers are facing the difficult decision to lay off employees. However, one thing is certain – we all need our medical coverage in place; without it, our situation would be amplified.

If for any reason your insurance plan will be terminating, then this introduces a “qualifying event” in which you can enroll on an individual medical plan within 30 days of losing your coverage. Also, in response to the potential growth of COVID-19 cases, a special Washington Health Plan enrollment period is now available through April 8, 2020 to qualified individuals who are uninsured. Apple Health is available to those that have no income, or limited income, and enrollment is available year-round. And, if you work for a company with 20 or more employees, you may also be eligible to continue your coverage via COBRA.

The insurance companies are committed to supporting you and will continue to update their websites to include frequent communications about the outbreak. We will also continually update our website with news from insurers. We are here to support you with answers to your questions.
